Winter Weather increases the likelihood of power outages, vehicle accidents, and adverse health effects to name a few. The best time to prepare for winter weather is before it happens, particularly in the fall months as temperatures begin to drop. How have you prepared?
Sign up for Warren County's AlertSense notification system and have a NOAA weather radio in your home to receive winter weather alerts.
Have a plan and know what to do if you or your family become stranded in your home or vehicle. Include emergency contacts, create an emergency kit, and winterize your home.
Winterize your home
1. Check, install, and maintain caulking and weather stripping around windows and doors.
2. Leave cabinet doors open and faucets dripping to reduce risk of burst pipes.
3. Clear chimney flues and gutters.
4. Install and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
Make an emergency kit for your home:
1. Non-perishable food
2. Water for each person (one gallon per person per day)
3. First Aid Kit
4. Food/Water/Medications for Pets
5. Medication and other needs specific to each person
6. Flashlight and extra batteries
7. Blankets
Make an emergency kit for your car:

2. Sand
3. Ice Scraper
4. Water
5. Non-perishable food
6. Keep gas tank full
7. Flashlight
8. Blankets
9. Battery pack for phone
General Safety Tips
1. Never use a generator indoors.
2. Keep items from space heaters.
3. Check on the elderly and your neighbors.
4. Avoid traveling during heavy snow and ice conditions.
5. Don't call 911 for road conditions.
6. Ensure you have extra supplies for medical needs.
Warren County Emergency Management provides a wide range of public safety services including law enforcement, fire suppression, emergency medical response, and disaster preparedness.
The National Weather Service will issue a variety of winter weather products prior to a winter weather event. These products will include information on the type of precipitation expected, the timing, and how much is expected.
